  Come, let us go to the smith's shop. What is he doing? 过来,让我们走进smith的店铺。他正在忙什么呢?
  He has a forge: he blows the fire with a great pair of bellows 1, to make the iron hot. 他有一个铁匠铺:他用一双风箱吹火让铁烧的更红。
  Now he takes it out with the tongs 2, and puts it upon the anvil 3.  现在他用铁钳把铁拿出来放在了铁板上。
  Now he beats it with a hammer. How hard he works! The sparks fly about; pretty bright sparks. 现在他用锤子锤打铁。工作很辛苦,火花四射相当明亮。
  What is the blacksmith making? He is making nails, and horse-shoes, and a great many things. Blacksmith正在制作什么呢?他在做钉子,马掌,还有好多其他的东西。
  What are nails and horse-shoes made of? They are made of iron. Iron is of great use to us.  钉子和马掌是由什么制成的呢?是铁,铁对我们来说用途很大。
  It is used to make ploughs, wheels, ships, steam-engines, and all kinds of things. We could not do without iron. 被用来做犁子,轮子,船,蒸汽机还有其他的很多东西。我们离不开铁。
  Steel is made of iron. Steel is very bright, and sharp, and hard. Knives and scissors are made of steel. 钢是由铁制成的。钢很亮,很尖,很硬。刀片和剪刀都是由钢制成的。
