The general manager of China Communications Service Company in Libya is one of the few Chinese who have experienced two evacuations from Libya. He spoke 1 with CCTV's Nie Jia about his concern and pity for those affected 2 by conditions in the war-torn country.
Worsening security.
Zhang Zhibiao is the head of China Communications Service Company in Libya. On Wednesday, with the help of Chinese embassies, he evacuated 4 36 from the country. Zhang was also in charge of the evacuation from Libya in 2011. To him, this evacuation is very different from the last one.
"Though the war broke out in 2011, the Libyan government was still functioning, so the evacuation was a lot easier. But this time the country has slipped into anarchy 5. The international airport has been bombarded. It’s dangerous to travel by air and land. Only sea travel is safe," Zhang said.
Zhang came to Libya in 2009. Due to the war in 2011, he was forced to evacuate 3, but came back in 2013. Over the years, he saw the country go from peace to chaos 6 and anarchy. He feels overwhelmed by the changes, he said.
"I think the Libyan people and our Chinese employees preferred the country before the war. Today, they are fed up with anarchy. Right now the country is rife 7 with robbery, theft, and chaos. It’s horrible," Zhang said.
Zhang is touched by the assistance of the Chinese embassies, which have helped evacuate hundreds of Chinese nationals to neighboring Tunisia and Greece. And now, they can all begin the journey home to safety.
