叫“老外”要小心
我们称呼一个人“老外”的时候，感觉挺友善的：
Endearing: 亲切的
但在“老外”耳朵里，可能是这样的：
Alienating 1: 隔离、疏远
Derogatory: 歧视，贬损
Demeaning: 侮辱
所以如果要称呼外国人为“老外”，最好先给他们普及一下你的初衷。
Foreigner为什么不合适？
美国是移民国家，不会强调一个人是“外来的”：
We don't emphasize that someone is a foreigner.
因为这样会强调差异性，忽略相通性：
It's kind like "us and them". 就好像我们是我们，他们是他们
Us and them: “我们”和他们”（我们不一样）
怎么恰当的称呼外国朋友？
这里有一些小技巧帮助大家正确称呼外国朋友：
1.Be specific about the country: 称呼具体的哪国人
Spencer is American. Spencer是美国人。
Adam is Canadian. Adam是加拿大人。
OpenLanguage has a team of North American hosts. 开言有北美主播团队。
2.如果华裔、非洲裔这样也可以具体说：
She is Chinese American. 她是美籍华人。
He is African American. 他是非洲裔美国人。
这样并不会不礼貌。
3.介绍外国朋友这样说更礼貌：
I've got a lot of foreign friends ?? 我有很多外国朋友。
My friends are from all over the world ?? 我有世界各地的朋友。
正式场合这两个词也好用
1).International 国际的
International staff：国际员工
International students：留学生
International residents：国际居民
2).Diverse 多元化的
Diverse workforce 2：多元的员工组成
Diverse campus：多元的校园
Diverse city：多元的城市
Racial diversity：种族多元化
到底哪里可以用“foreign”?
1.国际事务上
Foreign affairs 国际事务
2.形容异域的，不了解的
Foreign idea: 没听过的想法
v.使疏远( alienate的现在分词 )；使不友好；转让；让渡（财产等）
