[01:05.54]In 1977, when Deng Xiao-ping was reelected to the Central Committee, he prepared more than once for the ways to settle the question of China’s reunification.

[01:40.05]Hong Kong, a peral in the east, is closer to the mainland. In his early years,

[01:46.58]Deng Xiao-ping had been in Hong Kong for five times. In September 1920,

[01:49.47]邓小平曾经五次到过香港。1920年9月，

[01:52.35]on his way to France for studies through part-time work, he visited Hong Kong for the first time.

[01:58.62]During the three years from 1929 to 1931, in order to pursue revolutionary activities,

[02:06.17]he visited Hong Kong for four times on his way from Jiangxi to the site of the CPC Central Committee in Shanghai.

[02:47.24]And what the British side was thinking about? "We simply have to try to negotiate a smooth hand-over and to try to enable the people of Hong Kong who have built up a colossally 7 successful colony,

[02:59.59]a fantastic financial center, and as a manufacturing center,

[03:16.13]At 5:30, on the afternoon of December 19,1984, the Sino-British Joint 8 Declaration was officially signed at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

[03:26.99]This was a solemn moment. The humiliation 9 suffered by the Chinese people on the Hong Kong question which lasted for more than a hundred years finally came to an end.
