HOUSTON, July 14 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. police officer was killed and another wounded in a shootout with a gunman in central Texas, local media reported Sunday.
Police officers went to an apartment complex in Killeen, a city 300 km northwest of Houston, about midnight Saturday upon reports that a man was threatening people with a gun, according to local TV ABC13.
Police said officers tried to talk the gunman out when he fired one shot. The man then came to the door with hands up but would not come out. He backed into the apartment, grabbed a military-style assault rifle and began shooting at officers.
One officer was killed and another was wounded by the gunman, who was later gunned down by other officers.
Police has not released the identities of the man and the two officers. The motive 1 of the gunman is still unknown.
