Senior military officials urge improved work styles

BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two senior military officials on Thursday called for improved work styles within the military and greater efforts to fight formalism and bureaucracy.
Fan Changlong, vice 1 chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), said the improvement of the military's work style is an important issue because it concerns the military's capability 2 building.
Fan, who is also a Political Bureau member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, asked the military's general headquarters and relevant entities 3 to take action to improve their work styles.
He also urged the military headquarters set up examples for its subordinates to follow in eliminating corruption 4 and the abuse of power.
Xu Qiliang, also a CMC vice chairman, stressed at the same meeting that the military general headquarters should act as a forerunner 5 in improving the military's work style.
Xu championed efforts to combat formalism and bureaucracy, as well as put an end to extravagance and malpractice regarding the promotion 6 of officers.
Xu, also a Political Bureau member of the CPC Central Committee, asked military officers to avoid corruption and abusing their power for personal gain.
