China hasn't approved any planting of genetically 1 modified organism (GMO) grains, Agricultural Minister Han Changfu said at a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing 2 legislative 3 and political advisory 4 meetings.

The safety of GMO technology can be ensured, said Zhang Taolin, deputy agricultural minister, at the conference.

Many international authorities, such as the World Health Organization, the European Commission and International Council for Science, have done long-term tracking, evaluation 5 and supervision 6 on GMO safety.

Results show that GMO products that have passed safety tests and are approved by governments are as safe as non-GMO products.
