FREETOWN, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The UN Secretary General Ban Ki- moon on Friday assured the government and people of Sierra Leone of the UN commitment in helping 1 Sierra Leone's fight against the Ebola disease.

Addressing a press conference during his assessment 2 visit to get a first hand knowledge of the impact of the virus, Ban welcomed the government operation "Western Area Surge" as a means of putting a halt to the transmission chain. He said he was impressed with the command center, which was well structured and organised and the Hastings treatment center where he was impressed with one of the survivors 4 who had contracted the disease but was now healed and has become a care giver in the treatment center.
