Faith in God

[00:27.48]Max is in his apartment on the fourth floor

[00:32.84]when the residential 1 building is on fire.

[00:37.41]The fire starts on the second floor,and there's strong north wind.

[00:43.76]Before you know it,we're taking a major fire.

[00:48.93]Pretty soon,you hear sirens;a fire engine comes along.

[00:56.08]A firefighter,wearing an asbestos suit and a face mask,

[01:02.62]comes up to the fourth floor and yells to Max in the hallway,

[01:08.18]"Come on,we're here to save you.Get out of here,now."

[01:14.03]Max says,"No.I've got faith that God will save me."

[01:20.67]The firefighter moves on to save other tenants 2.

[01:25.32]Soon the fourth floor was in flames.

[01:29.78]Max is forced up to the seventh floor by the smoke.

[01:34.51]The firefighter on the aerial ladder yells,"Come on!It's getting worse.

[01:40.75]If you don't get on the ladder,you're going to die.:

[01:45.30]Sticking his head out of the staircase window,Max says,

[01:51.07]"No.I'll be OK.I've got faith in God,and He'll save me."

[01:57.55]Now,Max is on the roof.

[02:01.50]A helicopter hovers 3 overhead,and the pilot shouts out,

[02:07.14]"This is your last chance.Climb up the ladder.

[02:12.28]If you don't come now you're going to die."

[02:16.54]Max say from the roof,"No,thanks.God will save me."

[02:22.42]The pilot shrugs 4 his shoulders and flies away.

[02:28.06]Fire consumes the whole building.

[02:32.14]Max dies in the fire.

[02:35.79]He ascends 5 to heaven and asks an angel,

[02:40.94]"What happened?"

[02:44.18]I've been devoted 6 to God and had absolute faith that He would save me.

[02:50.34]Why did He let me down?"

[02:53.82]The angel tells him,"What the hell do you want?

[02:59.17]God sent you two firefigters and a helicopter!"

[03:04.50]A Heroic Pig

[03:32.64]Alex was lost in a rural area and stopped at a farm to get directions.

[03:40.08]As he was talking to the farmer he noticed a pig with a wooden leg.

[03:46.74]"How did the pig get a wooden leg?"he asked the farmer.

[03:52.49]"Well",said the famer,"that is a very special pig.

[03:59.02]One night not too long ago our barn was on fire.

[04:05.29]Well,that pig set up a great squealing 7 that woke everyone,

[04:11.74]and by the time we got there he had herded 8 all the other animals out of the barn

[04:18.80]and saved everyone of them."

[04:23.05]"And that was when he hurt his leg?"asked Alex.

[04:28.12]"Oh no,"said the farmer.

[04:31.65]"He was fine after that.

[04:35.17]Though a while later I was in the woods out back and a bear attacked me.

[04:42.44]Well,that pig was near by and he came running

[04:48.21]and set on that bear and chased him off.

[04:52.65]He saved me for sure."

[04:56.62]"So the bear injured his leg then,"said Alex.

[05:01.87]"Oh no.He came away without a scratch from that.

[05:07.44]Though a few days later my tractor turned over in a creek 9,

[05:13.89]and I was knocked unconscious.

[05:17.83]Well,that pig dove into the creek and pulled me out before I drowned."

[05:24.68]"So he hurt his leg then?"asked Alex."Oh no,"said the farmer.

[05:32.64]"So how did he get the wooden leg?"Alex asked.

[05:38.29]"Well,"replied farmer,

[05:41.63]"with a pig like that,you don't want to eat it all at once."

[05:47.66]An Experiment

[06:14.62]A think tank researching people's ability to survive under extreme circ umstances

[06:22.28]received a multinational 10 grant to study whether a person's background

[06:29.04]increased or decreased his capacity to survive in the wild.

[06:35.08]Selecting an Englishman,a Frenchman,and a Japanese for the program,

[06:42.21]the researchers assigned them specific tasks.

[06:47.46]The Englishman was put in charge of shelter,

[06:52.03]the Frenchman in charge of food,and the Japanese in charge of supplies.

[06:59.19]Flying the men to a desert island,

[07:03.73]the researchers left them there fox six months.

[07:08.49]Returning to the island,

[07:12.04]the group was surprised to find a beautiful house on the beach.

[07:17.39]They were greeyted by the Englishman who showed them around.

[07:22.36]They were impressed with what he'd done:

[07:27.32]the floors were snuggly fitted planks 11,

[07:32.49]the walls coated with homemade paint,and the roof leakproof.

[07:39.34]In the kitchen,they were welcomed by the Frenchman,

[07:45.21]who showed them a large cupboard stocked with meats,vegetables,fish,

[07:52.06]coconut milk,fruits,and other food.

[07:57.10]Out back,he had ereccted a pen for keeping wild pigs he had caught,

[08:03.27]and he had grown a substantial garden.

[08:07.31]"And tell me,"said the leader of the research group,

[08:12.38]"where is our Japanese friend?"

[08:16.14]"Well,sir."said the Englishman,

[08:20.22]"the truth is,we haven't seen him since we landed."

[08:25.36]Concerned,the scientists hastily formed a search party

[08:30.93]and ventured into the woods to find him.

[08:35.29]No sooner had they set out than the Japanese leaped from a tree and shouted.

[08:42.42]"Sup-plize!"(the Japanese accent for"Surprise!")
