For a minute Franz was 1 not sure that he wanted to sell his animals.

He had 3 worked very hard making them, and he loved every one.
"Why, Franz!" said 4 John, "perhaps 5 it is a luck 6 knife, after all."
Then Franz smiled, for suddenly 7 the thought 8 came 9 to him that he could 10 make many more animals.
"Yes, take them," he said to the child.
When the little boy went back to the city, he took 11 the wooden 12 animals with him.
Other children there saw 13 the toys and wanted some like them.
Letters asking for the little animals came faster than Franz could make them.
So other people in the valley 14 took up the work.
Soon many men and boys were making wooden animals.
The work grew and grew as 2 the years went by.
After a while 15 the valley became 16 known 17 as Toy Valley.
From it toys were sent all over the country and even 18 to lands 19 far away.
Then Franz knew indeed 20 that his knife had been a luck gift.
It is two hundred years since 21 Franz began his whittling 22, but the people of Toy Valley are still making the little animals.
At Christmas time stores 23 are filled 24 with toys from Franz's valley.
