Thanks to the Internet and websites like YouTube,pop music and dramas in South Korean have caught on outside Asia.

It is a phenomenon called the "Korean wave.”

David Schaberg is dean 1 of the Division of Humanities 2 at University of California Los Angeles.

Korean entertainment is one reason why Korean language enrollments have increased by almost 45 percent over four years.

That is the biggest gain of any language enrollment 3 at the clergic level.Says the Modern Language Association's Rosemary Feal in a Skype interview.

Feal says another reason for the enrollment increase is that children of Korean immigrants want to learn the language of their ancestral homeland.

Park says now it's a good time to become korean because the country's economy has matured and the world is taking notice.
