The Clod And The Pebble 1 泥块和小石子
'Love seeketh not itself to please, 爱情并不想讨它自己欢欣，
Nor for itself hath any care, 对它自己也丝毫不挂心；
But for another gives its ease, 只是为了别人才舍弃安宁，
And builds a heaven in hell's despair.' 在地狱的绝望中建立一座天庭。
So sung a little clod of clay, 一小块泥巴就这样唱着，
Trodden with the cattle's feet, 它被牛羊群的脚踩来踩去；
But a pebble of the brook 2 但是溪流里有一块小石子，
Warbled out these metres meet: 它用颤音唱出了合拍的诗句。
'Love seeketh only Self to please, 爱情只想讨它自己的欢欣，
To bind 3 another to its delight, 随心所欲地去束缚别人：
Joys in another's loss of ease, 它看到别人失去安宁就高兴，
And builds a hell in heaven's despite.' 建立一座地狱来对抗天庭。
