sit tight这个说法是来自扑克牌游戏，有的时候，一个参加游戏的人本可以继续玩，但是他放弃叫牌的机会而选择观望的态度，形容“不采取任何行动，耐心等待、坚持主张、静待事态的发展”。现在我们常用这个习惯用语告诫人们：“不要着急，请耐心等待”。因此，当美国人说"Sit tight, please."时，他/她要表达的意思就是:"Wait patiently, please."、"Hold your horses, please."。
