PART 1 THREE - A YOUNG WOMAN AT THORNFIELD

CHAPTER 2 ELEVEN

A Great Party at Thornfield

"Does she know?" Mildred whispered 4.

"No, and she isn't going 5 to find out! Do you understand? Don't tell her anything!" It was 6 then that I knew there was a secret 8 at Thornfield.

At last the day of the party came 9. Everything was ready for Mr. Rochester and his [-----1-----]. As 7 the people arrived Adele and I watched from an upstairs 10 window. We saw 11 Mr. Rochester on his black horse, and with him rode 12 a beautiful lady, her black curls 13 flying in the wind. "That must be Blanche Ingram!" I thought 14. Soon many ladies and gentlemen 15 were walking through the house, talking and laughing.

Adele loved parties and hoped 16 that Mr. Rochester would 17 ask her to meet the guests 18, but she and I both went to bed early. Mr. Rochester asked for me to bring Adele down the next evening.

The next night, Adele and I were in the sitting room when the ladies came in after dinner. We were dressed in our best clothes. All the women were beautiful, but I was [-----2-----] interested 19 in Blanche Ingram. After the gentlemen had 20 had their wine 21, they came into the sitting room and coffee and tea were served 22. Everyone was paying 23 attention 24 to Miss Ingram. She played the piano excellently 25 and sang 26 sweetly. Her shining 27 eyes, black hair, and fine [-----3-----] made 28 every man in the room look at her.

But I was looking at someone 29 else. The last time I had seen 30 him was on the night of the strange 31 fire. That night, he had held my hands, told me I had saved 32 his life 33, and looked at me with love. But now, he entered 34 the room without even 3 looking at me, and took 35 a seat 36 with the ladies. I had tried hard to forget about Mr. Rochester, but now that I saw him again, I could 37 not hide 38 my feelings 39 from myself 40. I felt that there was something in our minds and hearts that connected us
