     Sydney is the capital of New South Wales, Australia. The city was
founded in 1788 as the first penal 2 settlement of Australia. Its name
was taken from a cave named for Captain Cook's patron Viscount Sydney.
Sydney replaces Melbourne as the nation's largest population centre
after World War Ⅱ. It is also Australia's largest city, chief port and
main cultural and industrial centre.
