  奇闻怪事


  The doctor was new in town,and took over another doctor's patients.One of the new patients was a seventy-four-year old woman.He went to see her.She had been bedridden for forty years.


  After he examined her, he was very suprised.The woman wasn't sick at all! The woman had influenza 1 when she was thirty-four years old.Her doctor had ordered her to go to bed and stay there until he saw her again.


  The woman recovered in a few days,but stayed in bed.She waited for the doctor.He never returned.Several weeks passed and the woman found out that she enjoyed life in bed.People waited on her hand and foot, So she refused to get up.


  At first,her mother took care of her.When her mother died, her brother-in-law moved in and nursed her.For forty years,the woman spent all her time in bed.


  The new doctor called a specialist.The specialist examined the woman,and reported the case to the people around.


  "....By the time I examined the patient,it was impossible for her to stand on her own two feet.She had not moved from her bed for forty years."


  The specialist worked with the woman for several moths 2.Finally,she agreed to get up.The patient lived for three happy,active years until she died at the age of seventy-seven in 1978.

  A:Have you been eating properly?Eating the right kind of food is important for your health,you know.


  B:Well,I haven't been eating well,I guess.I usually only have enough time to grab 5 a sandwich and a cup of coffee for lunch.


  A:And what about dinner?


  B:Sometimes I'm too tired to eat anything at all.


  A:That's not good.You don't have a well-balanced diet.Have you been taking vitamin pills?


  B:I don't like to take any medicine at all without talking it over with a doctor first.

  Doctor Shade was a heart specialist.He was an excellent doctor and his examinations 7 were always complete.He listened to the patient's heart,took his blood pressure and temperature,gave him an X-ray and examined his eyes and ears.
