So Dan and Ron are on pins and needles because the countdown to Valentine’s Day is on.

Cannot wait.

You’ve only got one more day to find the perfect way to express your love for your valentine.

What about me? I get love...

Hopefully, you’ll be getting lots of chocolates, (You’ll get a lot of love.) because that’s the best way for many women to have love expressed (That’s right.) So we put them to the test. Do you need spend big bucks 1 for high-end stuff or will a more modest brand do the treat. To find the answer, I set out on a chocolate taste test, now you guys taste yourself.

We’re gonna taste, (yes) alright, sweet! We’re on it.

What do you think? I…

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but chocolate, it may just be her secret lover.

“I love dark chocolate.”

Rich, decadent 2, gooey, and addictive 3. Ever notice that chocolate commercials always seem to feature women eating it alone?

“It's a moment of my own delicious.”

And on one of the biggest chocolate days of them all, Valentine’s Day, our taste for coco tends to get much more expensive. And specialty 4 chocolatiers know it, offering a staggering array of high-end sweetness. We took two popular brands, high-end Godiva and the much cheaper Hershey’s Bliss 5, and pitted them against each other in a blind but unscientific taste test on the streets of New York.

These Godiva pieces, they cost almost $1 a piece.

The Hershey’s, less than 15 cents.

First up, the milk chocolate roll down.

Are you all chocolate lovers? Go try this one.

You wanna try it?

It's good, yeah.

You like it? Now try the other milk chocolate.

Oh, you like both Hershey’s.

Tell my husband I want Godiva

Only Godiva now.

It seems on this front nearly half chose Godiva, but how about for their dark chocolates?

Hershey’s the second.

Second.

They're the same.

I think I'll try that one.

You're a Hershey guy.

I have no idea.

Brian, you’re a Hershey’s man.

The much cheaper Hershey’s dark chocolates melted away the competition by nearly the same margin 6, the chocolate wars, in our test, are tie. So what are our customers getting when they spend more? To find out, we went to Mr. Chocolate himself, Jacques Torres, whose delicate bonbons 7 often come with a hefty price tag.

What's the difference between buying this and spending $36 on this and walking into a grocery store and getting any sort of generic 8 brand of holiday chocolates?

Other than the price?

Other than the price, yes, obviously.

Ok. Basically, we work very hard on the concentration of flavor, we don't use any essential oil or flavoring. We use only the real thing. All the packaging, all the presentation.

Are you apologizing or are you expressing your love, or a little bit of both?

No. Well, I have a lot of women in my life.

So while our taste test produced mixed results, a lot of people seem to agree--to keep the Misses happy, buy the expensive stuff.

Anybody who says, you know, it's a waste of money to go and spend a lot on these chocolates.

I think that your honey would be happier if you give something nice. Don't buy fake diamonds, buy real diamonds, don't buy fake chocolates, buy real chocolates. You know, that's basically the deal here.

It’s definitely the key of picking high-end Jacques chocolates. So the real chocolates.

Wow.

Dan, eat your heart out.

Well, Dan has been eating his heart out along with Jessie, and now it’s Ron’s turn to give the taste test, make a decision, what do you think?

Ron, is that you want a funnel 9 for that chocolate?

No. no.

There’s a clear winner…

Hershey’s the milk chocolate.

I got the evil line.

I got the evil line.

The B and the B are the high-price chocolates, I would say.

Really?

This is a high-price?

That’s what I’m saying…

I agree.

The A is the high-price.

One for two.

This is in the B?

The B, yes, B from…

I’m correct. OK. Well, you know they are all good. They are all good.

It’s true.

You want some?

Sure.

Is it cheating for me to have Godiva in my pocket?

You just seem to fell on it now?

I actually have to say I tried the milk chocolate and I like the cheaper one better.

Yeah, I think a lot of people did, I think the majority preferred the expensive dark chocolate.

There you have it.

Now you know.
