   写人最忌写“纸人”,人物要鲜活重在形神俱备的刻画,如鲁迅《故乡》中的杨二嫂 —— 凸颧骨,薄嘴唇;两手搭在髀间,张着两脚,正像…… 寥寥几笔,就可粗知她尖酸刻薄的性格。“搭在髀间”?如何形容这一“双手叉腰”的姿势?


  先给出答案:“搭在髀间”——(with)arms akimbo。
  就词源而言,akimbo很可能源于古挪威语“i keng boginn”(弯成曲线)。大约15世纪,词组“in kenebow”进入英语词汇,经过时间的推移,最后逐渐演变为今天的akimbo。
  日常应用中,akimbo(双手叉腰)除了简单描述形象特征外,也有其它暗含意,如不耐烦、敌意或轻蔑。一般来讲,akimbo常和arms连用,放置句末做状语。不过,有时您也会看到“legs akimbo”,指的是“双腿弯曲”。
  看一个例句:She stood 1, arms akimbo, looking around.(她站在那儿,双手叉腰,四下张望。)
