“准时”的表达

英文中“准时”的表达法大致可旧纳为二类
一、由介词on构成的习语
1.on tirne表示恰好在规定的时间
Mary is always on time for an appointment玛丽总是准时赴约
2 on schdule是美国人较喜欢用的习语，表示恰好在时间表规定的时间。
The alarm clock woke him up on schedule闹钟准时将他闹醒
3.on the dot／on the tick 前者的dot可能由钟表面代表钟点数的小点转义而来，后者的tick由钟行走时的嘀嗒声转义。两个习语都表示非常准时。另外,on the tick主要用于英国英语
The guests arrived at eight on the dot客人们八点钟准时到
The plane took off at six on the tick 飞机六点钟准时起飞
4.on the stroke该习语中的stroke由报时钟声转义
He was here on the stroke 他准时来到这里
二、由介词to构成的习语
这些习语有to the minute to the （very） moment , to the tick等。它们都强调分秒不差。第三个习语主要用于英国英语，其中的tick为转义
He wakes up every morning at 7 o'Clock to the minute他每天早上七点钟准时醒来。
He always comes to tbe tick他总是来得十分准时。
三、其它方法
具体时间＋sharp／具体时间十prompt这里的两个词均作副同用。
Please be there at 12:30 sharp（prompt)请于十二时半准时到那里。
punctual／punctually强调来自条约性的“严守时刻”含义。
He makes it a point of being punctual every day for his work（for class)他决定每天准时上班（上课）。
关于“准时”的表达法笔者还见过：
He is punctual You could set your watch by him（他很准时，你可以以他来校正你手表的时间〕这种表达也颇有新意。
