Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev says his country will restart gas talks with Ukraine if it pays off at least part of its gas debt.
Medvedev told reporters that nobody ever required Ukraine to hand over all the 4 billion US dollars straight away. But Ukraine needs to show they’re ready to act and paying part of it is the minimum requirement for resuming talks. Medvedev said it’s possible Russia could consider revising the price, which would be a question for negotiations 1. Ukraine’s gas company Naftogaz declined to comment. Russia’s state-controlled gas company, Gazprom, has issued notice to Ukraine to pay in advance for gas supplies for June. Otherwise, supplies will be stop from June the third.
