Good morning, all my dear listeners! Welcome to Morning Class from KeKe Net English. I’m Juliet. As a saying goes, “An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening.” So, I’m hoping that you can spend a meaningful time here.

We have a way of expressing a speaker wants to say something can be understood if it’s thought about carefully. It’s similar to saying”Think it about and you’ll understand.” Let’s listen to the following mini situational dialogue to get the expression.

(Scene:It happens between a couple who are talking about another couple.)

Mary:Why are Carla and Dave getting a divorce?

John:Did you see Carla’s boyfriend? Come on, fill in the blanks.

The answer is “Fill in the blanks”. The Chinese for it is “你猜猜看。”or “你推测一下。”Another situational dialogue, let’s look at:

Rose:I can see that Jack 1 has a new suit. Why?

Richard:You try to fill in the blanks.

A: Oh, I get it. He bought it for his graduation ceremony.

Here are some phrases which are worth making a calculation. They are:get a divorced, come on,bury...for... graduation ceremony.

Here are some questions prepared for you. You’er required to answer them orally when finishing listening to the recording 2. The questions are as follows:

1.What happens between Carla and Dave? Why does things go like this?

2.Does Mary know why? What does John asks her to do?

3.What does Rose find something new about Jack?

4.What does Richard do after hearing about Jack’s new suit?

5.Why does Jack bring a new suit?

Now listen:

Dialogue 1:

Mary:Why are Carla and Dave getting a divorce?

John:Did you see Carla’s boyfriend? Come on, fill in the blanks.

Dialogue 2:

Rose:I can see that Jack has a new suit. Why?

Richard:You try to fill in the blanks.

The suggestive answers are as follows:

1.Carla and Dave are getting a divorce. Because Carla has a boyfriend.

2.No, she doesn’t. John asks Mary to fill in the blanks.

3.Rose finds that Jack has a new suit.

4.Because there is going to have a graduation ceremony, Jack will dress it for his graduation ceremony.

Today we have learned one short sentence used in spoken English. It is: Sb. fills in the blanks.

Another saying goes, “An early bird catches the worm.” So, what’s your harvest for tomorrow morning? Please watch over our Morning Class. Let’s call it a day. Thank you for your participation 3 in today’s study activity. See you next time!
