              Notes

    The preference given to the eldest 2 son and his descendants in the
inheritance of property, or position, or both, is called primogeniture.
The opposite of primogeniture is ultimogeniture -- preferential
inheritance by the youngest son or child. The Stature 3 of Wills, which
became part of the English law in 1540, made it possible by will to
negate 4 primogeniture.
