February 23rd, 1945An iconic image from World War II during the battle of Iwo Jima in the Pacific. U.S. Marines, fighting Japanese forces, seize Mount Suribachi and raise an American flag twice in the same day. Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal captures the second flag raising in a Pulitzer Prize winning photo.
1991During the Persian Gulf 2 War, an American-led coalition 3 begins to ground defensive 4 against Iraqi forces in Kuwait. Within days, the offensive drives Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait and to cease fire as declared.
1997Scientists in Scotland say they have cloned the first mammal from an adult cell, a lamb they call Dolly. Six years later, Dolly is put to death after a premature 5 aging and disease mar 1 her short existence.
1965Stan Laurel, half of the Laurel and Hardy 6 comedy team, dies in Santa Monica, California at age 74.
And 2000Carlos Santana wins eight Grammys for his album Supernatural, that ties the record set by Michael Jackson's Thriller 7 album for the most trophies 8 on Grammy night.
