Winner Culture

Americans believe in change. We are very sensitive to the idea that life can always be made better. An introspective person accepts things the way they are; but the active person makes changes.  Therefore, one of the biggest compliments 1 you can give someone is to say that they are "full of energy" in whatever they do.

A person contributes to society by doing the best he can.  Americans look up to those who succeed on their own, the "self-made men", as heroes.  Great American literature often praises the rebels 2, such as in the book, Huckleberry Finn and Walden.  Frank 3 Sinatra summed it up when he sang, "I did it my way", in one of his most popular songs.
