[00:51.34]is part of the goverment plan
[00:53.19]to develop the western part
[00:55.24]of the country.
[00:57.13]What is the plan about?
[00:59.84]In this plan,the government encourages
[01:02.64]college graduates to work
[01:04.81]in the western regions 3
[01:06.37]for one or two years as volunteers.
[01:09.66]Have many college graduates
[01:11.61]volunteered to take part in this program?
[01:15.21]Oh yes,many of them.
[01:18.04]Till July,2003,about 43,000 have volunteered
[01:23.48]and 6,000 have gone.
[01:26.43]And which areas do volunteered work in?
[01:30.44]They work in many areas.
[01:32.87]Some work in education,
[01:35.09]others in health care.
[01:37.47]Some work with farmers in the countryside
[01:40.40]and some work on cultural 4 programs.
[01:43.21]At the end of their service,
[01:45.11]volunteers can decide to stay in Western China
[01:48.42]or to look for work in other parts
[01:50.70]of the country.
[01:52.04]Many of them have decided 5 to stay.
