Japan's telecoms giant Softbank is spending just over $20 billion to buy a majority stake in the US mobile carrier Sprint 1. The deal will bring together the third biggest mobile carriers in both Japan and the US. Softbank's billionaire founder 2 and chief is Masayoshi Son. He's the brainchild behind this takeover. I caught up with him by phone from Tokyo earlier today and asked him what he hoped to achieve with it.
