  1.Why are so many countrise eager to join WTO?


  2.What can the common people benefit from our entry to WTO?


  3.Do you think Chinese farmers will be threatened becuse domestic grains must compete with higher quality imports?

  5.What should we do get prepared for future changes?


  6.Entry into the international organization will mean some visible benefits to common Chinese consumers.


  7.China's entrance will open its markets to goods and services from othermember countries and increase its export opportunities.


  8.We will abide 1 by WTO rules.


  9.We must make sweeping 2 changes in nearly every sector 3 of our economy.


  10.China's WTO membership not only brings us opportunities ,but also poses challenges to us.


  Dialogue One


  A:Good news!China and its major trading partners have reached a formal agreement on China's membership in the World Trade Organization.


  B:That's really good news.Is China a full member now?


  A:Not yet.The document has to be formally approved at The WTO meeting of trade ministers.


  B:When will the meeting be held?


  A:In November.


  B:So China will realize its 15-year long dream before the end of the year.


  A:That true.Just think of the 15 years of often difficult negotiations 4 China's accession to the multilateral trading system is really something to celebrate.


  B:Yes,I can't agree with you more.But what can we benefit?


  A:Well,we can benefit a lot actually.We'll cut trade tariffs 5,there'll be more variety of goods for us to choose from and some of them will be much cheaper.


  Dialogue Two


  A:China's entry into WTO is a hot topic now.


  B:People are interested in it becuse it will bring about great changes and it can not only benefit China,but also benefit other members of the organization.


  A:What changes will take place in China?


  B:Well,China will attract more foreign investment and Chinese producers will become more competitive in the world market.


  A:Then,it'll further raise our living standards.


  B:Sure it will.China's WTO accession will encourage economic growth and that can benefit its trading partners.


  Dialogue Three


  A:A lot of people are talking about WTO now.What does it stand for?


  B:Are you kidding?You don't know what it means?


  A:Of course I know.But I'm not sure what the three letters stand for?


  B:They stand for World Trade Organization.


  A:Could you tell me what its goal is?


  B:Its major goal is to promote world trade and economic development.


  A:Do you know when it was established?


  B:It was established in 1995.Although it's a rather young international organization,it has a long history.Its predecessor 6 the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was founded in 1948.


  A:Is it true that China was one of the 23 founding members of GATT?


  B:Yes,it's true.But China pulled out of it in 1950.


  A:What a pity!

  The World Trade Organization was established in Geneva in 1995.There are over 130 members and they do over 90% of world trade.


  WTO is a multilateral trading system that lowers trade barriers between people and countries.The members use WTO agreements to do international commerce.The agreement guarantee a fair trading system for goods, services,intellectual property and dispute settlement.Its objective is to help trade flow smoothly 7 ,freely, fairly and predictably between the members and help producers of goods and services to conduct trade business.This is believed to benefit the people of member countries.
