Were you surprised to hear younger women are earning more than men? I actually wasn't surprised. 25-year-old Lindsay Mure runs her own networking site for professional women. She thinks one reason young women like herself make more than men in big cities is because they are putting off marriage longer.

We are not having kids as early as we used to. We are not settling down , at, you know, 21,22 like our parents and our grandparents before them. So it really gives us more time to develop our career.

And more time to develop their brains. Andrew Beveridge, the report's author says more women are graduating college than men and often flocking 1 to urban areas.

Women have gone ahead, gotten better educated than men and they are able in certain ways to navigate 2 better in the new economy.

Remember those Sex and the City gals 3, they often dished about making more money than men. I know lots of women who make more money than their husbands. Sex and the City not only helped us to improve our sex lives but our career lives.

Karen Salmansohn, author of the 30-Day Plan to Whip 4 Your Career Into Submission 5 says like in the TV show women in big cities benefit from the support of other high-achieving professional women.

It's the Marines mentality 6 where women are kept at their highest level because they are surrounded by other women who are living at their highest level.

Are you okay with this making more money than men? Absolutely. Women may be fine with it. But what do the guys think?

You know, you can let the other half make the money for a while. Good for them. They can take the lead for a while.

As they get older, women traditionally have earned less than men.

Girl power, grow power ? Totally.

The question is whether the girl-power generation's earning power can continue when they grow gray.

Kelly Wallace, CBS News, New York.
