A Chinese envoy 1 to the UN has urged enhanced international cooperation to fight terrorism.
Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN told a UN Security Council meeting on Friday that the increasing transnational flow of foreign terrorist fighters has become "a new challenge" to international counter-terrorism endeavors.
Liu vowed 2 that China will intensify 3 its efforts in the campaign.
"China will push forward counter-terrorism domestically and internationally.
China will continue to strictly 4 implement 5 Security Council resolutions on counter-terrorism,
intensify its efforts to fight terrorism according to international law, and punish severely 6 violent and terrorist crimes."
According to the UN, there are now over 25,000 foreign terrorist fighters from over 100 countries who have traveled to join or fight for terrorist entities 7 associated with Al-Qaida, the Islamic State (IS), and Al-Nusrah Front.
The envoy also called for enhancement of border control and cooperation in law enforcement and financial regulations.
He also urged efforts against the utilization 8 of the Internet to engage terrorism, such as spreading extreme ideology 9, recruiting, plotting terrorism activities and raising funds.
