The World Health Organisation 1 warned that Zika, a mosquito-borne virus linked to brain deformation 2 in human fetuses 3, is likely to spread to every country in the Americas except Canada and Chile. Brazil has reported 3,893 cases of microcephaly—an abnormally small head—in infants since October, up from fewer than 200 a year previously 4. Zika is the suspected cause.
