今天的故事中，我们的Catherine过五关斩六将，已经进入了最后一轮面试，但是当她得知和她竞争同一个职位的女孩是老总的亲戚时，她觉得自己这份工作又没希望了，她将自己的担忧告诉了Jenny，Jenny 拍拍她的肩膀说，I just want them to give you a fair shake .Catherine 心想，难道是说我竞争失败后他们跟我握手吗？于是她便问Jenny。
C：I‘ve just heard that my competitior is one of the boss's relatives ,so I guess I will fail again this time
C: 我刚听说我的竞争对象是老板的亲戚，我估计我这次又要被淘汰了。
J: Oh,I just want them to give you a fair shake.
J: 我只希望他们能一视同仁
C: Do you mean that you want them to shake hands with me after I fail?
C：你的意思是说希望他们在我失败后跟我握手吗？
J: No honey.What I was saying means that i want them to treat you all equally.
J：不，亲爱的。我刚刚那句话的意思是我希望他们能公平的对待你们。
C: Oh I see.I hope so.
C：哦我明白了。我也希望如此。

shake的本意是“握手，摇晃”,但口语中shake有“处置，对待”的意思,a fair shake 就是“公平的待遇”give sb. a fair shake 就是对某人一视同仁的意思
