 　　When the mailman 1 reached a post-box by the side of a country road, a little girl was playing in the yard. 邮递员来到乡村路边的一个邮箱，一个小姑娘正在院子里玩耍。

　　"Did you bring my letter?" she asked eagerly, as she came running to the automobile 2. 有我的信吗？她跑到车子旁急切地问道。
　　"I think so, Mary Ellen,"answered the mailman, smiling. 玛丽·艾伦，好像有，邮递员笑着回答道。
　　First he gave the little girl a letter for her father. 首先邮递员给了小姑娘一封给她父亲的信。
　　Next he gave her a paper for her mother. 接着他给了她一个给她母亲的文件。
　　Last of all, he gave her an envelope with her name on it. 最后，给了她一个上面写着她的名字的信封。
　　"Oh, thank you," said Mary Ellen, as she hugged her envelope and ran into the house. 哦，谢谢你，玛丽·艾伦边说边抱着自己的信封跑进了屋里。
　　"You are welcome," said the mailman. 不客气，邮递员说道。
　　The valentine felt small fingers opening the envelope, and it peeked 3 out a bit. 情人节贺卡感到有小手指正在拆开信封，它往外偷看了一眼。
　　By a calendar on the wall it saw that it was Valentine's Day. 根据墙上的日历来看，今天是情人节。
　　"Oh oh," thought the valentine, "how glad I am to be on time!" 啊，哦，能够准时到达，我太高兴了！情人节贺卡这样想着。
　　A moment later it was in a bright and pleasant room, 不一会儿情人节贺卡就进了一间敞亮宜人的屋子，
　　where there were flowers by the windows, and a gray pussy 4 by the fireplace 5. 屋子的窗边有许多花朵，在壁炉旁还有一只灰猫。
　　Suddenly it heard a soft and happy voice say," Oh, how lovely!" 突然贺卡听到一个柔和快乐的声音说道，啊，真可爱！
　　And then the valentine looked right up into Mary Ellen's shining eyes. 情人节贺卡往上一看，看到了玛丽·艾伦闪闪发亮的眼睛。
　　It had reached the end of its journey. 此时它也到达了旅途的终点。
