英语词汇：afraid的正误用法
◆他叫我不要怕。
误：He told her not to afraid.
正：He told her not to be afraid.
析：afraid 是形容词, 不是动词。
◆你瞧这个受惊的孩子。
误：Look at the afraid boy.
正：Look at the frightened 1 boy.
析：afraid 是表语形容词, 一般不能放在名词前作定语。但是若 afraid 本身有修饰语, 则也可以放在名词前作定语：a very much afraid boy (十分胆怯的男孩)；另外有时构成短语可放在被修饰的名词后作后置定语：a boy afraid of dogs (怕狗 的男孩)
◆你自己能修吗? ---- 恐怕不行。
误：Can you repair 2 it yourself 3? ---- I’m not afraid.
正：Can you repair it yourself? ---- I’m afraid not.
析：比较：I’m not afraid. 意为“我不怕”；I’m afraid not.意为“恐怕不行”、“恐怕不会”、“恐怕不是”等(表示委婉的否定)。
◆他担心会吵醒婴儿。
误：He is afraid to wake 4 the baby.
正：He is afraid of waking 5 the baby.
析：要表示“不敢做某事”或“害怕做某事”，用以下两类结构均 可以：be afraid of doing sth / be afraid to do sth：I’m afraid to jump (＝of jumping).(我不敢跳)。但是若要表示担心可能会发生某事, 则要用 be afraid of doing。
