   Suddenly, a wave caught the canoe and spun 1 it around.


  突然,一个大浪把独木舟打得转了起来。
  Applegate leaned hard on his paddle.
  阿普尔盖特拼命地靠在他的桨上。
  His hand slipped, and he lost his balance.

  The canoe tipped over. Applegate found himself in the water.

  His clothes felt terribly soggy and heavy.

  His shoes dragged him down, and he could barely keep his head above water.

  Instead of hanging on to the canoe, he started swimming toward shore

  which was a crazy thing to do.

  Counselors 3 sprinted 4 to the waterfront.

  One counselor 2 kicked his moccasins off, dove in, and began swimming toward Applegate.
