Kat DeLuna，出身在纽约的布朗克斯区，之后随家人前往多米尼加在那边的贫民区长大，从小她就显露出她歌唱方面的天赋，之后，在她九岁时，全家又迁回美国新泽西居住。之后她的父母亲离婚，全家的生计陷入了困境，Kat和她的姐妹们被迫要向邻居乞讨食物，但在这困境中也激起她力争上游的决心，趁她课后的空闲时间，她开始在当地许多的表演活动中上台表演，也曾经和拉丁艺人Milly Quezada及Marc Anthony同台演唱过，另外，她也在其它时间聆听Aretha Franklin及Billie Holiday的唱片，在中学习并增进她的演唱技巧；之后,她在高中求学时期，组了个Latina，Hip Hop/R&B曲风为主的女子乐团Coquette，在15岁时她参加了一个歌唱比赛(可口可乐歌唱大赛)，她凭借一首Whitney Houston的“I Will Always 1 Love You”拿下冠军殊荣，同时也改变了她的命运，为她开启前往演艺圈之路的大门；她碰到古巴的salsa乐著名歌手Rey Ruiz，Rey给了Kat许多的建议和指导，让Kat更坚定的了解自己想要做的音乐，及想要成为的歌手。
