We stopped at the waste water pumping station by the side of the road. So this is some so called treated water. A study by an Indian institute of technology found it even after supposedly being treated, the waste water from the tannery still contains dangerously high level of poisonous chemicals, such as arsenic 1 and mercury. Apparently 2, the water here comes from the pipe over there and it flows in these channels and then is used for irrigation, providing water for crops in the dry season, but in the wet season, it flows from here straight into the river Ganges. On the river bank on the outskirts 3 of the city, I met environmental campaigner Rack. Rack, thanks for meeting with us. Can you tell us what is the state, the health of river Ganges at this point.
