Top 5 Countdown for Week Ending June 14

This is the Top Five Countdown! We’re featuring the five most popular songs in the Billboard 1 Hot 100 pop singles chart, for the week ending June 14, 2014.

The fireworks die down on this week’s lineup, giving us a chance to catch our breath.

Let’s start the journey in fifth place, where Pharrell Williams falls a slot 2 with “Happy.” The video for this cut has become a global online sensation… It has inspired people the world over to step in front of cameras and dance. One Egyptian rendition has collected more than 1.1 million hits…among the highest in the region. It also replaces the English lyrics 3 with an Arabic translation.

Taking over fourth place are DJ Snake and Lil Jon, with “Turn Down For What.” This has become Lil Jon’s biggest hit in a decade. Back in 2004, he reached third place with “Lovers and Friends,” featuring Usher 4 and Ludacris.

John Legend spends another week in third place with his former title-holder “All Of Me.” John and his wife have a new addition to the family: a three-legged puppy 5 named Penny. Chrissy tells People Magazine that the French Bulldog pup had been abused by its first family, and that John brought it home on June 8.

Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea continue to hold second place with “Problem.” The Hot 100 isn’t the only chart where this pair is thriving…this track is an across-the-board hit: it leads Billboard’s first weekly Twitter Top Tracks chart, becoming the most-shared song on that platform. It also jumps to second place on the Streaming Songs list.

Up at number one, give Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX a second week with “Fancy.” Iggy graces the cover of the current issue of Billboard Magazine.  Among other revelations 6, she says that Tupac Shakur inspired her to become a rapper, and that she moved to the United States from Australia at age 16…without telling her mother she intended to stay.

That’s it for today, but the chart never rests! We'll be back with you next week for an all-new lineup.
