Chinese female basketball player Miao Lijie has signed a contract with WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs .
Miao Lijie’s move follows that of her national teammate Sui Feifei who is the second player from China to sign into the league in the history of the WNBA.
Miao Lijie, who is considered by the Chinese media to be the best guard in China, will go to America with Sui Feifei in early April.
Miao Lijie was named the WCBA’s Most Valuable Player, scoring champion and best three-pointer in the 2002 offseason. The 1.78 meter tall, 24-year-old is in her eighth year as a member of the Chinese National Team.
Miao Lijie also plays for Hei Longjiang in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA).
With the addition of Miao Lijie and Sui Feifei, one quarter of the Monarchs roster 2 is international (Ticha Penicheiro - Portugal and Hamchétou Maga - Mali, West Africa).
The Sacramento Monarchs will begin their regular season on May 21 in Phoenix 3 against the Mercury. They will continue the following week with a three-game road trip before Opening Day at ARCO Arena 4 when the Monarchs host the Los Angeles Sparks at 1:00 p.m. in a game to be nationally televised on ABC.
