Do you recycle?
Neil: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning English, I’m Neil.
Helen: 大家好，我是Helen，欢迎收听地道英语。
Neil: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
Helen: 英语是在现实生活中不断发展的语言，所以我们需要随时更新词汇，最好的方法莫过于收听 BBC Learning English 制作的地道英语。
Neil: That’s right, Helen.
Helen: 那好，今天我们学什么呢？Neil?
Neil: Today’s new word is recycle. R.E.C.Y.C.L.E. Recycle.
Helen: Recycle. Recycle 的意思什么呢？
Neil: This is a word that refers to how we dispose of the things we use in daily life.
Helen: What do you mean, Neil?
Neil: Well, in the past people just threw away things like glass bottles, empty tins and paper after they used them. But it is more common nowadays to use the thing again. So using something again instead of throwing it away is recycling.
Helen: 我明白了，去 recycle 就是回收再使用，那么Neil，什么样的东西可以被回收再使用呢？
Neil: Well, I recycle plastic bags. When I go to the supermarket I take a plastic bag with me to use again. I don’t need to use a new one.
Helen: So Neil 说他每次去购物的时候都会随身带一个可以重复使用的塑料带，那么你为什么要回收再利用一些物品呢？
Neil: The main reason to recycle things is to help protect the environment. By using something again and again we use fewer resources.
Helen: 我知道了，回收再使用有利于环境保护，节省有限的资源。比如我们回收再使用一次性的方便筷， 就可以少砍伐一些树木。
Neil: Exactly.
Insert
A: Hey don’t throw that bottle in the rubbish bin 1.
B: Why not?
A: Because you should recycle it. You could use it again.
Helen: So is recycling common in the UK, Neil?
Neil: Yes, it is. In fact many local councils help people to recycle by giving them special bins 2 to put glass, paper, plastic and metal in. Then the council collects the items for recycling.
Helen: 有意思，在英国，许多区政府协助居民回收可以重复使用的物品，负责管理废品回收利用的全过程。
Neil: Well, looks like we’re out of time. So let’s recap.
Helen: Good idea. To recycle 就是回收再使用，而不是完全丢弃掉，这样可以有利保护生态环境。
