US has leading a military exercise that involve dozens of countries. Now, some official say that's all this is, it's just an exercise. But some analysts 1 say it could seen as a warning. Let's look at the map and see where this has happening, it's in the middle and as we move into a little closer, you could see the Persian Gulf 2 on the left and the Arbian sea on the right. What connects them is the straight of xxx, and right above that, Iran. Earlier this year, Iran threatened to close off the straight and that would really matter because one fifth of the would's traded oil passes through there. The military exercise is happening around the straight, countries are practising how to find and remove mines. Chris Laurence was there on US NAVY shift, reporting on these exercises before they got started.
I'm standing 3 on the flight deck of the USS enterprise here in the north Arabian sea and we are just days away from one of the largest anti-mining exercises ever conducted. The US xx two dozens of it's alley 4 would be putting xx. Earlier this year, the head of Iran's navy said that mining the straight of our moves would be as esay as drinking a glass of water. Iran has also xxx US plane that include stop Iran from mining the stright or could prevent such a mining operation. That is what the US and many of it's alleys 5 xx in the next few days. How well they could work together to possibly prevent the mining and xxx the straight in some of the xx ways we are mine. How quickly they could demine it.
The Pentagon has been steadly beeping up it's naval 6 presence in the Gulf in response to some of the Iranian threats to bind 7 and close the straight of her moods. The Pentagon has moved four more mine sweepers to this area and it also plans to brick another aircraft area in earlier. It' all part of the military's new plan to keep two carriers in the area at all times. Now the NAVY tells us this training is not meant to be proactive. But Iranian official who eralier this year boasted about having thousands of mines ,say they are watching these exercises very closely and call the situation in region sensative.
